Title: Site changes . . . :)
Post by: Ultimus on June 14, 2011, 08:18:11 AM
Sorry about the ugly theme....  SMF's latest upgrade (2.0 release tree) has made some older themes obsolete.

The previous branch is being discontinued and I couldn't hold off much longer with only maintenance releases for the previous versions now being release.

The WoW-DK theme that we've used for several years doesn't support SMF 2.0 yet... so I've switched to this temporarily.

Thanks for your understanding.... if you have any problems please let me know ASAP =)

Wow, this site is so with it now! The clear text and no graphics makes it so much easier to read! I vote we keep this as the final version!

I agree, Dur.  It definately seems easier to see and read.

Well I'm certainly not against leaving it this way.

There are some other theme options too if that's the general concensus =)

For those curious.... you can see an array of demo themes here: http://www.jpr62.com/demos/

Not all are available for the current version but most of them should be.

This theme is called ambassador, which is quite far down the list.

I really, really hate this theme.

I don't see what the problem was with the old one with regards to being able to read it.  Hold down CTRL and move the scroll wheel on the mouse if the letters are too small. :P

As long as we have the option to change it to something that matches personal tastes, it doesn't matter.

What? No hot button to 'read unread posts'?
This is going to take a little time to get use to.
At first glance, I actually thought there where hackers trying to make a dummy site to try and get us to log in and take our account info. Silly me.

Although 'easier to read', it lacks the character/persona of a WoW guild website, as it is. I'm sure that with updates and whatever packages/options the programmers comes up with, that the site will look a tad bit more 'hoardy'.

-ciao for now.

I guess my sarcasm didn't come through too well on my original post.  ;)
While I like a site with cleaner lines and easy to read text (I'm old remember), this scheme is very bland. Spice it up!

The search will continue..   As for the unread link.. it hsould be here somewhere...

Up under the "Hello Zanzier" [Show unread posts since last visit]

Top left-ish of the page... :) [for now]

I will try and keep several theme options available.... now to get us some Horde ;)

I don't usually use the "Show unread posts since last visit" link, I just look at the icon to the left of the message areas to see which ones have new info.  The old site was kinda hard to tell, with the little bit of blue-ness on the icon, but there's no doubt which areas have new posts now.  :)

Honestly, I come here for information and to BS.  I don't particularly care how horde-y the site feels, but I know that's important to other members.  As long as I can tell where the new stuff is, I really don't care what theme we use.  My $.02.

I don't care about how "Horde-y" the site feels, I just thought the other skin was easier on the eyes.  But as I mentioned before, so long as there are options forthcoming, I can be patient and deal with it.  And even if there aren't, it's not as if I have to spend hours a day on this site to read all of the new entries. :P

Lazy bastards.

Pro:  the Cataclysm site graphics look cool.

Con:  1)  It's a hair harder to pick out which threads have new messages.  I actually have to pay attention now, but it's do-able.  :P  2)  The use-able part of the message board, even on my widescreen monitor, is very narrow.  My sigs won't even display two columns, let alone three, so all seven of them are listed in one column and I look like even more of a smacktard than I did before.

Looks great, but I agree with Dave about the width of the page display. I play on a 24 inch widescreen. Is there any way on my end to force it to my native resolution? (1920 X 1080)

Also, I can't tell what posts are stickied. Well, if any are atm, might just be me being silly.
Overall, it looks really great. I especially like the actual post background. It is really easy on the eyes. The text just pops.

Edit:

Oh, another little quibble. When I click on the "show unread posts since last visit" link, the icon for the new posts is just a generic white box with an X in it and the letters "new". Silly, but it  stands out on an otherwise nice looking layout.

Since you mentioned sticky posts, I went looking for them.  Took me a while, but I found them.  The "sticky" indicator isn't to the left of the post title with the other indicators, it's off to the right.  If you look just to the left of the "replies/views" counter, you'll see a little dagger holding stickied posts at the top of the list.

If we keep this layout, I'm going to have to change my sig.  I hate having each of my posts take up an entire screen's worth of scrolling.

Not my favorite layout.. its just the first WoW related theme I've found worth a damn...

So I'll stick with it for maybe a week or two until something better comes a long :)

just noticed that it looks like broke it slightly trying to widen it..  I am working on modifying this theme slightly for our needs ;)...

Don't be surprised when things might look odd at times ;).

You should have a few manual theme choices in your profile...
