I saw this on CNN too.

I'm of mixed feelings.  If they need it, I'd rather the kids have access to it because if the parents aren't taking care of them to keep sex out of the picture, then the parents are not going to take care of precautions.

But I'm terrified of the fact that children of that age are even aware of birth control's existence.

It hits home...my child is in middle school.

I say we blame rap and rock stars, the parents obviously have nothing to do with thier children having sex.

but on the real, lets kill paris hilton

Lets see here all the kids here about is SEX from all the Rap music and how he beat up his Hoe.  Now as I parent I take great offense at this attutude and try very hard to teach my daughters differently.

I personnaly blame  the following

Clinton
Hilton
Spears
all the rap stars
major league sports
the rest of the poeple who think they are about the law.

I think you meant to say "above" the law...

Anyway, I don't blame rap music (though I can't stand it) or Spears/Hilton (though I can't stand them) or major league sports (though my teams disappoint me).  If the so-called "news" outlets would stop reporting on these things every minute of every day and focus on REAL news it wouldn't be near as big a problem.  But anytime a boob is flashed or a "celebrity" is busted for one thing or another it's plastered all over the newspapers/magazines and shown 24/7 on every news channel.

"Our top story today:  Britney's crotch explosed...again!  Alsosomeplanecrashedandpeoplewerekilled.
And uh-oh, looks like Paris is up to her old tricks!"

At any rate, I firmly believe parenting in general has gone way downhill and that is the main reason kids are the way they are in the current generation.  Parents should be the first and last line of defense for their kids when it comes to these sorts of things, but lately TV and the Internet have been "babysitting" more and more.  I'm not saying there aren't good parents out there, I'm just saying they are fewer and farther between now than they used to be.

weeeeeaaaakk.

LOL

IF you have a problem with the music dont let your kids listen to it.  Just because of the ignorace of rap and rock stars (cant for get them as most people do) trying to make buck doesnt mean its there fault.  The united staeds leads a shelter childhood so lets just take all music away from kids.

Its a no brainer to me not tolisten to that crap around children the the rest of america seems to be having a hard time with it.  Crap will always be out there.  ITs like drugs and no one seems to get it.  teach kids the morals to know enough not to use them and the drugs will go away.  supply and demand.  no supply just means higher prices, not demand means some is sitting on a boat load of shit he cant get rid of cuz no one wants it.

Personally CLinton is my boy and i would vote him back in in a sec.  its none of the rest of the worlds business what he did with his interns.  Bills a playa pimp, dont hate the playa hate hit bitch of a wife for not being as experimental and willing as she promised when they got married.

And honestly it really pisses me off when people blame rap alone.  doesnt nickle back tell u how much they love your pants around your feet or buck cherry tell u how awesome cocaine is.  IM gonna through it out there because i can,  and i know a lot of you are gonna get pissed but its what i do, i think its a prejudice against minorities.  becasue no one that was white accept eminem made it big in rap.

rock is produced by a white majority and thus there crimes are over looked,  my opinion, w/e.  ( i love rock and metals and cant stand rap)

music in general is putting out a negative image jut like everything else in the world.  the only reason that the world is getting so bad with the sex and drunks is because that what the dumb ass viewer wants.  its cool to see hoe dumb mutha fukkr are.

and im guessing you mean above the law.  and i agree this isnt judge dread,  you are not Da law.

everyone wants to be cool, and in reality 3% of people might actually be, everyone is selfish.  you will not ever be able to find one action or act anyone anywhere does that doesnt have some selfish basis.  i used to help out in homeless shelter and i thought i was doing good, and i was, but when it came down to it it made me feel better about myself for doing it and at that point i wasnt sure if i was doing it to help other or doing to make myself feel good about myself.

now i realize that sometimes i feel better about myself because i made some one else feel better about themself and thats ok.  but to be completely selfish and act only thining about ones self it what drives the country today.

its not so much to just teach your  kids and any kids right from wrong but to make them strong enough so that when it comes time that they can do the same to the next generation and that got lost somewhere on the way.

kids cant play tag cuz of low self esteem, music cant have swears in it, games are too violent, children are having sex too young.  its not the porno industries fault for people watching porn, its the peoples fault, its they fault for being horn dogs and watching it.  if no one wanted to watch it i bet u they would stop making it, same with drugs and shitty music.  as long as people want it it will be there so really take another look at who u wanns put the blame on.

we should kill paris kilton just because.
but look at the big picture, its tough to raise a kid, its tougher to raise a city or state or country.

Yes, I menat above the law.

And I Teach my kids alot.

Claire told me the other day that alcohol  is a drug and I should not drink my beer because acohol is a drug and drugs hurt people.  To which I said yes honey you are right drugs do hurt people and Alcohol is a drug.  After which we poured the rest of that beer down the drian.  I only drink one or two a week, but I was so proud of her for tying everything together.

We don't watch anything in our house that is not kid approved,  PBS kids gets alot of air time in my house.  Nor do we listen to the radio stations in the car we do buy CD's and prescreen them.  I am trying very hard to teach them the best I can between right and Wrong.

They do not watch TV un supervised or on the computer unsupervised.

Yes, I have had one after that incendent but we have talked about the differance between illeagal and legal drugs also but moderation.  I try real hard to use these experainces as learning/ teaching operituneaties(or however its spelled).

My gole is to provide them with a good set of tools and teach them to pick up the tool box when they can.

And hopefully when the get older the wheel will have turned again and things will be better.

I took the approach that Alcohol is a grown up drink.  Drugs can hurt but drugs can heal.  It's the drugs that are too dangerous that are the problem.  <shrug>   As far as smoking... Mike and I have both quit.  Yea us.

Difference in parenting...but at least we are parenting.

Don't blame the music.  Don't blame the media.  Put the blame squarely where it belongs.  Everything starts at home.

Alex listens to Nickelback, but it's a far cry if I let him listen to Everyone Cares vs Figured You Out (as so well quoted by Apoc).

And stop the presses, Apoc and I agree.  Clinton was a better president... and I could care less who he screwed.  The only reason it was on TV was to further the political careers of the republicans and to gain ratings for the media <shrug>.

wow I didn't actually read the article until now.

Yea that's all people talk about here in Maine, we are on national news and everything.

Please remember the school offers them, not makes them take it.  If the parents doesn't want them having it they don't get it.  This was passed solely on the fact that many families in this neighborhood don't care about their kids, period.  Many are living off my tax money.  I would prefer if I am already paying for them to get educated to get off my wallet that they don't have friggin kids which will be on my wallet.

King middle isn't in a good neighborhood.  It's the ghetto of Portland, where it's all immigrants trying to start up a new life.  Many don't have parents they have guardians.

The problem has nothing to do with the pill and all to do wit the environment.  Educating these kids not to have sex isn't working, they are still being educated this isn't a supplementary plan.  We aren't cutting sex ed or health and just giving kids condoms and the pill. . .
