Just letting you know I had to do some website backend.

I know not a lot of you visit frequently anymore... but if things look different that is definitely the cause!

And we're back for now.


Hopefully a little more speedy too.

Just an FYI -

I am migrating our web server hosting quite soon.
I've been limping along with the existing host, paying some pricey monthly legacy costs, for some time.

I have some much improved hosting that the site will need to move to.

I aim to keep the forums intact, but I may have to clear up some stuff.

SimpleMachines (the software that operates our forum) hasn't been updated reliably in a few years, leaving me with a few issues on the back end.
Bots have been spamming the new member signups for sometime, but haven't been able to post.  Purging them is a fun task, and SMF doesn't do any IP verification.


So, you might not notice any changes, if everything goes well, but there are some major changes coming.

Yea. WoW is still my definite choice for an MMO.

The free ones just are missing soo much.

The paid for ones make you wonder why they aren't free.


I may take a brief break between now and Warlords, however.

I know when I heard the original announcement of "end of the year" for the expansion I was shocked.

I did realize it was a fluid date, more specifically meaning, BEFORE the end of the year... meaning sooner if possible.


I truly hope so, because WoW is withering on the vine....

I really won't miss the itemization change.

Just hurdles and caps that you MUST meet to start playing... it all made no sense really.

Lets remove the theory crafting from the game and make it fun to play...

If someone's DPS halves by changing out two pieces of gear with MASSIVE upgrades during the same raid... that is a broken itemization system.. ;)



I liked Reforging.... It allowed an item not exactly for your spec to bridge a gap in your gear... But like the above it was overused...

I also heard HORDE is getting a new capital city....

Some fun facts:
10 people check the forums regularly (daily -> 3 days).

20 people check the forums within 2 weeks.

Alrightly....

Last nights first migration took a bit longer than I expected. By 9pm the site was functional-ish.

After 9 I began the final transfer to a cloud base hosting.
The files and database moved fine by my management control panel had some incorrect information.

Our home path to the website had changed, but the control panel and my instructions did not.. and continued to reflect the old path.

I forced a change to my new detected path... and everything restored. I took the opportunity to update our forum theme, the buttons seem a little weird though.

Over the next 3 days I'm in the process of migrating our hosting to another server (with the same provider, just to get some of the latest and greatest features)....

This procedure will involve changing both web and database servers.

During this time everything will be automagically migrated over. However application settings will need to be updated.

During the time after migration, before I've discovered it has happened, there will be some downtime, until I adjust the site configuration.

It'll take just a minute to fix, but there will be a small chunk of downtime.



After this migration occurs, I'll be in the queue for a larger cdn based hosting migration, which will co-locate our website in a bunch of regions, and should speed everything up (not that it is slow at all)

My epic is locked in one of my premium bag slots... Sucks... /mourn fluffy....

So I get home from work... servers offline / down.  WoW login servers hammered . . . . .


Servers up nearly 2 hours later....  servers shutting down in 15 minutes.. Aaacckk!! 

Oh and: "Diablo III Servers are Full."  "Queuing".

Every game, even single player, is run on their servers....

Enjoy the feel of lag in every swing you make, every loot you take, every move you take, it'll be lagging you! ;)



If the log in servers are hammered (as during beta) you cannot sign into the game to play...
