Everyone in the beta is screaming about it, too. lol  "It's not ready!  It's not ready!" They all don't seem to realise that the devs haven't just been sitting idle while we've been testing the latest build.  I'm betting the next build the devs give us will have just about everything polished and cleaned up.  I'm sure there will still be balance issues, though...

Yea in betas they push everything to breaking points.

Is the new expansion using any tokens/badges from BC or PvP? Would be a waste to have saved up so many badges when the next expansion comes out and the greens, there, are better than the purples in BC.

I would imagine all the new expansion gear starting area will replace most of our gear we all have.  I would hope level 70 badges don't earn us level 80 gear because that would be too easy.

It's not a waste, it's just like when BC came out.  All of us in full teir gear from raiding 40 mans started replacing some amazing gear with greens in BC.

Actually if you're in Kara gear or even PvP Arena season 1 gear you most likely won't be replacing any of your gear very soon in Northrend.  They learned a lesson from the release of BC.  If you're well-equipped at level 70, you won't be throwing out that hard-earned gear as soon as Wrath comes out.  I'm nearly 72 in the expansion, have done well over 100 quests, killed I don't know how many mobs, and I have yet to find a better armor piece than what I have on already.  I HAVE, however, replaced my melee weapons.  Though being a Hunter my melee weapons weren't all that spectacular in the first place.  If you have Kara or PvP weapons you'll most likely keep those as well.

The general consensus seems to be that if you're in T6 you'll keep that through to 80.  The gear that's dropping/being rewarded in Northrend thus far is more for the benefit of those who level to 70 AFTER the expansion and would rather go right into Northrend rather than running endless raids to upgrade first.

As far as tokens go, I haven't checked them out yet because I have so few (apart from BG tokens) anyway.  Although, taking what I've just written into consideration, collecting those "old" tokens would probably still be a benefit for you as some of the gear you can get for those (like Badges of Justice) will be good enough to carry you through most of Northrend.

I feel I should add that if you haven't done the Onyxia chain and still want to, your window is closing.  Upon release of the expansion (or possibly 3.0, the big patch that comes before the release), Blizz will be taking those quest chains out of the game for the forseeable future.  Ony will no longer require you to be keyed (indeed, you may already not need the key), and WoW lore storyline advancements make the current chain unreasonable.  For example, in the expansion, the king has returned to Stormwind, and Ony-in-disguise is no longer in the court.  This means that that part of the Alliance quest chain would be completely un-doable.

The guy in charge of the changes (and the original quest line, I believe) said that he would TRY to revisit this later and possibly re-implement it in a different way, but there are no guarantees.

So again, if you've ever wanted to do the Ony quest line, NOW is the time to do it.  There is a lot of lore coming out with the expansion, and it's going to be effing sweet.

Want a taste?  Picture an epic battle taking place in UC.  (Don't worry, it's one of those new "phased" quests...only people doing the quest line will see a change during the course of their quests...and afterwards it's back to normal).
