Well it wouldn't necessarily list your REAL RL name unless you wanted it to, but yes, it basically works like that.  You could have your "Real ID" be PLB and all of your friends would be able to recognize you regardless of what char/game you would on because the "PLB" would identify you to them.

This is similar to the SOE universe of games where you could send chat messages between Sony games (EQ, EQ2, SWG, etc.) without leaving the game you're in...but it'll be a LOT cleaner and a lot easier to use.  And yes, if you ever wanted to set up RTC sub clans in SC2 and D3 this would make it a lot easier to coordinate and such.

As to release,  I was able to pre-order the expansion and the release date is set for this November.

The release date that The game store has in their computer is November '09, I have my doubts but that is the estimated release

Be prepared for two things:

1) Pushed back dates
2) A week's worth of the servers being down spurratically.

Do NOT under any circumstances go by the release date set by gaming stores.

Blizz themselves said it would not be until next year.

Game stores are notorious for setting completely arbitrary and unsubstantiated dates.  They just want your pre-order.

I never pre-ordered WotLK, just walked into Best Buy the day after release and picked one up off the shelf. No line-ups, no hassle. Will do the same thing when the next one is released.

I did the midnight pick up thing sat in car till the lines got short then went and got it.  Went home set it next to the computer and went to bed.  installed the next day NP oh and the 1 week  worth of E patches after ward.
