I logged on Live today while the Beta was down to start doing some dailies for some cash (there are some really nice-looking money sinks in the upcoming expansion) and decided to go ahead and do the Molten Front dailies since they're very easy to complete and all in a compact little area.  I was richly rewarded with not one, not two, not three but FOUR rare hunter pets in the process. 

All four of them were up at the same time in the Molten Front and I got to take my time to gather them all since relatively few people do those dailies anymore.  They were all part of the 10 "challenge" pets that Blizzard introduced for Hunters meaning that they have special abilities or require a decent management of your skills as a hunter in order to tame them.  Better still, you don't have to be specced as a Beastmaster in order to use most of them.

Okay, so maybe this is only exciting for me, but still, it was a nice distraction and I desperately needed the distraction today.

4.2 Challenge pets

From that list I got Karkin, Solix, Kirix and Anthriss the first day and Terrorpene (not a challenge pet but a rare molten turtle), Skarr and Skitterflame yesterday.  Ban'thalos I've had for ages now, and I'm hoping to collect the two cats soon.

And today I just got Deth'tilac!  The hardest of the challenge pets to obtain, this guy will one-shot you if you come within melee range and can only be tamed when his health is very low.  He starts with nearly 77.5 million HP, and his ability Deth Strike one-shot kills people/pets within melee range but takes away 10% of his health.

This was a long, drawn out fight in a smallish area in which I had to continually kite him around with Concussion shot and Ice traps and repeatedly send my pet in to get aggro and then eat a Death Strike, quickly revive my pet while Deth is slowed, and then repeat.  Overall the fight took around 15-20 minutes and I managed it on my first try.

I'm not really a fan of spider pets in general, but the skin on this one is very unique and few hunters will have him.  I also collect the spirit and challenge beasts, so now I have only two left to obtain to have all of them in my stable.

Grats!  Collecting awesome pets is probably the best argument I've heard for levelling my hunter alt.
